IPTA, as a recognised Non-Governmental Organisation in consultative status to the IMO, serves as an industry representative on the main committees and working groups dealing with issues which affect the Chemical/Product tanker industry, including the Marine Environment Protection Committee, the Maritime Safety Committee, Design and Equipment Subcommittee, the Subcommittee on Bulk Liquids and Gases and the IMO Working Group on the Evaluation of Safety and Pollution Hazards, which reviews products and assigns their IBC Code categorisations. IPTA was a significant contributor to the revision process of MARPOL Annex II and remains actively involved in conveying an understanding of the revised legislation and overseeing the implementation process.
IPTA liases regularly with the United States Coastguard and representatives of the European Union on issues related to the chemical and product tanker industry's.
IPTA serves on the Editorial Board of EQUASIS.
IPTA liases with representatives of both the Vegetable Oils/Animal Fats and Chemical Industries, dealing with issues such as shipping and contract terms, ship inspections and trade regulatory matters.
IPTA has participated in CDI related matters since the inception of the system, and continues to represent the rights of ship owners on the CDI Marine Executive Board.
IPTA serves on the CDI Inspector Training and Accreditation Committee and Technical Committee.
IPTA liases with OCIMF on a wide range of industry related issues including the further development of SIRE into the field of chemical tanker inspections.
IPTA is an active participant in the Inter-Industry Working Group dealing with Fires and Explosions on Chemical Tankers and Product Tankers under 20,000 dwt operating without inert gas systems.
IPTA is a shipping industry representative on the FOSFA International Oils and Fats and Technical Committees and acts as Spokesperson for the Oils and Fats Committee's Logistics Working Group.
